Crann Sidhe: Prop Concept

"Crann Sídhe" is an environment socket concept rooted in Celtic mythology and design, directly translating to fairy tree in Irish. Apple trees, 'abhall' in Old Irish are considered sacred, magical and as a home to the faeries. My concept is tackling the challenge of having faeries reside on apple trees, coming up with the idea of them residing inside an apple, carving into it and making it their home. The surface in carved in Celtic patterns and knots, with apple buds blooming around the apple itself, kept frozen in time by the magic of the resident faeries. In this apple reside two faeries. On either side of the door are inscriptions in the "Ogham" alphabet, referred to as the 'Celtic Tree Alphabet' which is written from top to bottom. For that, I translated English into Old Irish and that further into Ogham. Vines and anthers curve into the apple, giving it structure and design. The doors are made using apple wood, also said to have been used to make wands for druids; the steps and outer structure are created out of mud and earth. At the bottom of the structure, the branches of the tree are curved into a 'Serch Bythol,' symbolizing eternal love and union.

The faeries in this world are druid wielders of magic, drawing magic from nature. Beings that design everything for the sake of traditional and not personal choice. Rigid in nature but fluid in terms of magic use and control. Their homes, the apples, reveal themselves opening into their structure only for faeries.
