Heart in Snow: VFX Shot

This VFX Shot, was one of the shots created for Jessica Spurrell's ICVFX music video, Bury Me. I created this shot fully in 3D utilizing Blender, Substance 3D Painter and Unreal Engine 5.6. I modeled a 3D heart pendant mold in Blender, and using the 3D Print Toolbox plugin, exported it in an .stl format ready to be printed. We tried out iterations of the model, finalizing a 5cm heart. I then took out just the heart part of the pendant and textured it accurately for a snowy environment. I added in fingerprints, for consistency between scenes and snow settling on the cracks and crevices of the heart prop. Playing around with multiple iterations of the texture of the heart we settled on one with visible bright red in the centre. In Unreal Engine, I used a Quixel Megascan snow piece, sculpting it and molding it to fit around the prop to give the heat the effect of being buried in snow layers. I also added a new softer higher resolution texture. I upped the volumetric fog settings; tinting it greyish blue, adding in a wind card at an angle suitable for the camera, to give it a snowy-windy feel. Lastly, I added in a Niagara system with tiny particles to further the effect of snow particles blowing in the wind.
